How I Can Help

Practical guidance. Real-world experience. Support for whatever comes next.

IEP support

Sitting beside you before, during, and after the meeting.

What this looks like: Special education can feel like a world with its own language, rules, and expectations. I can help you understand how the system works, including the basics of special education law and your child’s—and your—rights. Whether you’re trying to address a concern at school, prepare for an IEP meeting, want support at the meeting itself, need help making sense of what happened afterward, or are navigating a conflict with your child’s school, I can help you understand your options and figure out what to do next.

BOOK SESSION

Paperwork support

DDA, SSI, and all the other forms that quietly decide everything.

What this looks like: Sometimes getting the right support means getting through a mountain of paperwork first. I can help you understand and navigate applications and processes for services and benefits such as DDA, SSI, guardianship, and other disability-related supports. Whether you’re applying for the first time, trying to figure out what information you need, responding to a request or denial, or simply feeling stuck somewhere in the process, I can help you sort through the details, understand what’s being asked of you, and take the next step with confidence.

Systems navigation

Knowing which door to knock on, and what to say when it opens.

What this looks like: Disability services can sometimes feel like a maze of agencies, programs, eligibility rules, and closed doors. Knowing which door to knock on—and what to say when it opens—can make a real difference. I can help you figure out which systems and supports may be available to your family, understand what they’re looking for, and communicate your needs in language that gets heard. When you hit a roadblock, I can help you understand whether “no” really means no, or whether there may be another question to ask, another person to call, or another path forward.

Guardianship assistance

Understanding your options and navigating what comes next.

What this looks like: Figuring out how best to support your loved one with decision-making as they enter adulthood can feel overwhelming. I can help you understand the different options—from supported decision-making and other alternatives to guardianship—and think through what the best fit for your family may be. If you decide to pursue guardianship, I can also provide practical assistance with preparing and filing a petition, follow-up paperwork, and ongoing annual reporting requirements. I am not an attorney and cannot provide legal advice, but I can help you understand the process, stay organized, and know when a question is best brought to a lawyer.

Emotional support

Support for the moments that feel especially heavy.

What this looks like: Sometimes what you need most isn’t another resource or another form—it’s a place to talk through what’s happening with someone who gets it. Whether you’re processing a new diagnosis, facing a major transition, dealing with behavioral or medical concerns, or simply going through a particularly hard season, I can offer a listening ear and a place to sort through what you’re feeling and what comes next. You don’t need to have the right words, a specific question, or a plan. Sometimes it helps just to talk with someone who has sat on this side of the table, too.

Teaching classes

Workshops for parents, and for the professionals who serve them.

What this looks like: Sometimes families—and the professionals who support them—need more than information; they need a chance to dig in, ask questions, and build practical skills they can use right away. I offer interactive classes and workshops for parents, caregivers, educators, and other professionals on topics related to IDD, special education, systems navigation, transition to adulthood, family support, and more. Trainings are designed to make complicated information understandable, useful, and relevant to real life, and can be customized for the needs of your group or organization.
